去年因為忙著去印度工幹和結婚﹐閱讀這部書的計劃暫停了。基文會那邊的讀書會早完結了﹐只有一位會友能夠堅持到最後。但我不想就此半途而癈﹐希望善用這個假期讀畢餘下的三章﹐完成這部使我獲益良多的鉅著。… [...]

我對在智識分子中吹起的Malcolm Gladwell旋風也算後知後覺﹐憑著兩本薄薄的大作Blink和Tipping Point成為最有影響力的當代學者。不過我也是最近一年才聽過他的名堂﹐拜讀他那兩本被譽為必讀書藉的重要著作。此君著作貴精不貴多﹐對上一本Blink已經是05年的事。各界讀者耐心等候了三年﹐總於等到他姍姍來遲的新書Outliers。這本書仍然是薄薄的二百來頁﹐與前作一樣富可讀性﹐從觀察一些生活上的軼事開始﹐輔以嚴緊的學術論文作注腳﹐推論出讓讀者意料之外的結論。… [...] 
今天去探朋友一歲大的BB女﹐我朋友的髮線很明顯在節節敗退。還記得早兩年我做他結婚的兄弟時﹐他雖然不算多頭髮﹐但還未稀疏到頭肉清析可見。一歲大的BB最好玩﹐剛剛開始懂爬行﹐又不怕陌生人。BB年紀太細像一團飯沒有反應﹐年紀太大又頑皮不聽話。BB女生了八隻BB牙﹐可以除了吃奶外﹐還吃些固體食物。BB媽媽見BB扭計想吃東西﹐便給她吃一塊Baby… [...] 
近年多看著重觀能刺激的動畫﹐不是瘋狂爆笑便是打到飛起﹐竟然不習慣看一些描寫細膩的動畫。本來每個星期追看《女神異聞錄》﹐可惜這套動畫與《高達00》和《反逆R2》同季﹐看罷那些充滿映像刺激的動畫﹐再看這套要用心感受的動畫﹐實在忍受不了緩慢的風格是只好暫擱下來遲些再看。早陣子有空把這套動畫翻出來﹐由頭到尾一次過細心品嘗﹐心無旁鶩可以培養情緒﹐投入動畫的世界靜心欣賞﹐興幸沒有錯過這齣很有韻味的作品。… [...] The environmentalist should learn that the only way for sustainibility is keep moving forward.… [...]

In fact, it’s not even my camera, it’s the birthday present for my wife. When I first got it, I took some snapshot to make sure it works fine. Then… [...] 我一向沒有吃飯前祈禱的習慣﹐不過結婚後每次食飯前﹐老婆都會提醒我要唸飯前經。有時太肚餓或老婆太慢﹐我已經把食物放入口中﹐她也要我邊吃邊補唸經。畢竟我信教多年對吃飯前祈禱已不大抗拒﹐也能夠理解在神學慨念中﹐我們要凡事感恩的重要性﹐當然這也包括為我們的食物謝恩。只是我認為感恩是一個恆常的心態﹐並不需要無時無刻掛在口唇邊。對食物感恩與神心照便可以了﹐不用很形式化在吃飯前特地祈禱。除非怕自己會忘記感恩﹐才需要一日三次提醒自己。至於其他食飯前祈禱的原因倒可以不用理會﹐不是迷信便是矯柔造作扮野。說食飯前祈禱可以潔淨食物﹐是沒有科學根據的迷信。說食飯前祈禱是在人前做見證宣揚耶穌﹐則與耶穌在馬太福音第六章中所說﹐站在十字路口禱告的偽善者無異。… [...] 
每次去印度工幹總要逛書店﹐一來在印度工餘除了上網和閱讀外﹐沒有其他消遺娛樂﹐二來印度的英文書真的很便宜。印度生活指素低﹐出版商也特別印刷國際版﹐照顧落後國家的購買力。平裝書只售北美的一半價錢﹐若果是新書這邊只有精裝版﹐價錢相對起來更加便宜。當然印度英文書的種類不多﹐書店入貨只限大路暢銷書。我商業經濟的書架時看見了這本《臥底經濟學家》﹐印象中記得經濟學人雜誌的介紹﹐反正十分便宜於是便買了回來再算。原本它的命運與其他我未有時間看的書一樣﹐隨手被堆放在某一格書架上。豈料去大學書店買下學期的課本時﹐竟然給我重遇這本書。想不到一本通俗流行讀物﹐也可以做了一年級經濟學入門的課本。於是我在好奇心推使下﹐在書店隨手拿起來開了頭﹐結果回家便把它從書架翻出來啃完。… [...] Many writers often develop writer’s block after they have been writing for a while. 我原本沒有打算看《家好月圓》﹐我對上輯《溏沁風暴》沒有什麼好印象﹐曾經很努力地嘗試過看﹐結果因為實在太婆媽無聊﹐看了十多集便放棄了。豈不知早幾個星期在家中扭開電視﹐看到了今年無線的視帝視后頒獎禮﹐《家好月圓》的夏雨和米雪稱帝封后﹐於是好奇心推動下﹐便找套《家好月圓》來看看﹐那些老戲倌如何好戲。在沒有十分強烈的動力下﹐終於花個多星期把整套劇集﹐以快速跳播每十五分鐘看一集的速度挨完。若果把劇中的婆媽悶場略過不看﹐無視閒角的旁枝未線故事﹐單看主線發展還算不錯。… [...] I didn’t take any part time course at SFU this term because I have to adjust my newly wed life and I to work in India for 3 weeks in October. 不知大家有沒有在見工面試時﹐被問智力IQ題的經驗呢﹖我記得以前在大學應徵見習工時﹐真的在面試時被問如何佔計加拿大有多少間油站。據說這個面試考智力是微軟的傳統﹐因為他們只要挑選最聰明的人當員工﹐後來很多科技公司甚至金融銀行也爭相彷效﹐成為最幾年面試模式的一個潮流。不知這個潮流過氣了沒有﹐現在的公司面試時還會不會問IQ題﹐我也有一段日子沒有面試了。《如何搬走富士山》是一本分析這個現像的書﹐而書名則是來自微軟面試的其中一條問題。… [...] Canada has a very weird political system.
