my resume

My name is Horace Chan; people call me Horace Chan. I look like any typical Hongkongese Canadian, I'm tall, thin, wearing glasses, having a "middle-split" hair style and studying a money-oriented program: Engineering. Being born in the year of Dragon and under the horroscope of Leo, my character resembles a lot from Dragon and Lion, the most powerful creature in real and imaginary world. I have absolutly no talent in art nor music. One example is that I can only draw stick figures even though I had spent size years attending drawing lessons. I can't play any musical instructments and my singing is extremely special. There is perhaps nobody in this world besides me who can sing a song with every note off by a different key.

Life: I was born one month before the death of Chairman Mao. I wouldn't be considered to be a healthy baby, for I have asthma and serious allergies even today. Anyways, I grew up as a normal child. I spend six years in Methodist School. After I finsih my primary school by chances (it's a long story), I entered La Salle College. There, I learnt many things and met some of my best friends. Five years later, I compeleted my HKCEE with 3A3B. Originally, I was suppose to study in England, but I stayed in HK to contine my F.6, out of some reason. Again, out of some reason, I left for Canada in the middle of school year and studied in Appleby College. At Appleby, I experience something that I had never experienced in my life. I ranked number one in the class. I graduated as the second best student in academics and admitted by Computer Engineering of University of Wateroo. This is my 3rd year of a 5 year non-stop, study/work alternating co-op program.

Hobbies: Besides Art and Music, I'd say I have a wild range of hobbies. I am a rather amateur photographer, I spent quite a lot of time with my Minolta SLR camera. Making models is another of my hobbies since childhood. I used to make serious military models, but recently, I put my focus on Gundam series. For my other areas of interest, keep on reading and you'll know more.

Comupter: Computer is my life! I had my first computer in Garde 5, it was a Apple IIe. It was merely a game machine for me at that time. As I grow up, my computer has been upgraded into a XT, AT, 386SX, 486DX and finaly, the Pentium I'm now using. During a period of time, I was very into BBS. However, I shifted my interest to programming and now I'm a die-hard net addict. I know something on everything about computer, from Assembly to Java, from 3D Rendering to Word Processing, and from CPU to Internet. I hate using Macintosh, since Macintosh is idiot's computer. I don't use copyright software, for I only use pirated copies. Out of many people's surprise, my idol is not Bill Gate, but rather Linux Torvalds.

Games: This first game in my life was Lode Runner, I can't belive myself to finish all 150 levels in one day. I never played console games, becoz I think those mindless shooting/fightering games are only good for kids. Computer games are real games. I like flight simulation, puzzle and stragegy games. Up to a certain point, I collected all existing flight simulators. I'm a super fans of the Wing Commander series, I had finished every single eposide. Tetris is my all time favourite. Last term, I spent many sleepless night in playing network Warcraft with my good buddies in Waterloo. Besides computer games, I go to arcade quite often. I only play games with either a seat or a gun. Daytona and Area 51 are my best games. I can shoot with both guns and finish the game 1.5 times in Area 51, and I am one of the best Dayton player among my friends. Skill is not the only component in winning the game, you also need tatics. You have to know when to 'press' other cars and when to stay after them. Super GT is the true successor of Daytona. I'm pretty good at this close-to-realistic driving game too. During the summer term, I spent over one hundred bucks pratising Virtual On, and become one of the top players in university, you are always welcome to challenge me.

Pop culture: I'm not very picky in watching movies. Thus, I'll think the movie is good as long as I don't fall asleep. I'm not too fond of English songs, instead I spend my time in listening to Chinese songs and music. My favourate musicials are Yukie Nishimura, Joe Hisaishi and Takako Nishizaki. If you ask me who is my favourite singer, I can't really give you an answer. Maybe Eric Suen can be a possibility. I like him simply becoz he is Lasallian. However, I can tell you right away that Leon Lai and Vivian Chow are the ones I hate. Both of them are very very cheap. I don't watch TV series or sitcoms. If you see me in front of TV, you'll know I'm either watch news, information or animes. I like Japanes Animation a lot. As you see from the theme of my web site, I'm a dedicated fans to the Macross series. Besides that, Laputa, Patlabor and Evangelion are also my all times favourate.

Reading: I do lots of reading (and with amazing speed.) I read all sorts of books in Chinese and only science fiction and mysterious in English. My favourate authors are Issac Asimov, Louis Cha and Haruki Murakami. I have the all the books of Haruki Murakami and I had re-read some of Louis Cha's novels more than 10 times. Besides novels, I read lots of Japanes comics too. Nausicaa, Akira, and Gunnum are the one I like most.

Sports: I was good swimmer and won several medals as a member of the swimming team in La Salle and Appley. However, due to the lack of practice after I get into university. I'm afraid that I can't even swim 100m right now. My other favourate is badminton, and I was the director of UW badminton. Having a pool table at home also makes me quite a good Billiard player. In addition, I like any exciting activities: buggy jumping, white water rafting, etc. And I am planning to learn sky diving and motorcycling.

Love: The last thing I would like to mention is about my beloved one - Justina. She is the best girl I will ever met. She is pretty, kind, smart and a little bit overweight. Although she always says I'm too lazy and not serious on anything, she is the who one cares me most besides my mother. For those who are interested to have a look on her photos, please click here.
