{"id":1689,"date":"2008-01-26T20:05:24","date_gmt":"2008-01-27T08:05:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.horace.org\/blog\/2008\/01\/26\/hit-and-run\/"},"modified":"2008-01-26T20:05:24","modified_gmt":"2008-01-27T08:05:24","slug":"hit-and-run","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.horace.org\/blog\/2008\/01\/26\/hit-and-run\/","title":{"rendered":"Hit and run"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today I have a mysterious hit and run.\u00a0 I was driving on the Sea to Sky Highway coming back from Whistler.\u00a0 The road condition was pretty bad, it was snowing and the road is icy.\u00a0 I drove slowly and very careful.\u00a0\u00a0 There was a pickup truck in front of me suddenly put on its brake, probably because the car in front of him also break.\u00a0 I brake at once, but the ABS is not working.\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t turn either, the wheels has no tracking.\u00a0 My car is slowly hitting the back of the pickup truck, slide to the side of the road and have half of the front buried in the snow.\u00a0 The airbag is not deployed and we have 3 or 4 seconds to prepare for the impact.\u00a0 Very luck, we were not hit by cars fellowing us, so no one in the car is hurt.\u00a0 The first car following us somehow has very fast reaction, they manage to cut to the left and pass us.\u00a0 The car fellowing turned sideway and pull over ditching into the snow.\u00a0 There were quite a few cars ditched into the snow behind us.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s in snowing, it&#8217;s dark and it&#8217;s on the highway.\u00a0 We remember the safety tips, stay in car, call the insurance company, call the tow truck company and wait for help.\u00a0 I can see a few cars stopped about 50 meters ahead of us.\u00a0 Probably they can&#8217;t break and have some collisions.\u00a0 I would expect the driver of the pickup truck come over to get my driver license, but no one ever come by.\u00a0 The police came but they ignore us and go straight to the cars stopping in the front.\u00a0 They didn&#8217;t come back to ask us anything either.\u00a0 When the tow truck finally came, the pickup truck is already gone.\u00a0 I hit someone and he ran away, I guess it is still a hit and run.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know\u00a0 what is going on.\u00a0 I definitely hit someone, the front of my car is damaged.\u00a0 The fend flew away, the hood and a side panel is deformed.\u00a0 The pickup truck seems didn&#8217;t realize he was hit.\u00a0 The good thing is that no one reports the collision to ICBC and make a claim, I can keep the same safety status.\u00a0 We have speculated a few theories why the pickup truck ran away.\u00a0 One possibility is the pickup is so strong that there is virtually no damage to its back.\u00a0 Another possibility is the driver had alcohol, so he want to get away before the police come.\u00a0 The most probably but hard to believe scenario is like this.\u00a0 When our tow truck drive away, we do see a car have similar damage in the front as my car.\u00a0 Remember the car following us who manage to dodge us?\u00a0 I think they rear end the pickup as well.\u00a0 The pickup couldn&#8217;t tell two hits from one hit, so just copy down the driver license of the other driver.<\/p>\n<p>After many hours of troubles, my car finally arrived at the body shop.\u00a0 I hope my car is repairable.\u00a0 It would be a lot of headache if my car is totaled.\u00a0 I would have to shell out extra money to buy a new car.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today I have a mysterious hit and run.\u00a0 I was driving on the Sea to Sky Highway coming back from Whistler.\u00a0 The road condition was pretty bad, it was snowing and the road is icy.\u00a0 I drove slowly and very careful.\u00a0\u00a0 There was a pickup truck in front of me suddenly put on its brake, &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horace.org\/blog\/2008\/01\/26\/hit-and-run\/\" class=\"more-link\">Continue reading <span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Hit and run<\/span> <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"lc_iscn_info":[],"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":false,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","default_image_id":0,"font":"","enabled":false},"version":2},"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false},"categories":[1],"tags":[260],"class_list":["post-1689","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-_scribble","tag-accident"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
