{"id":1980,"date":"2008-09-02T18:13:13","date_gmt":"2008-09-03T06:13:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.horace.org\/blog\/2008\/09\/02\/heathrow\/"},"modified":"2008-09-02T18:15:54","modified_gmt":"2008-09-03T06:15:54","slug":"heathrow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.horace.org\/blog\/2008\/09\/02\/heathrow\/","title":{"rendered":"Heathrow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>London Heathrow Airport is probably the worst airport in the world.\u00a0 I read from the news that on average 6% of luggage is lost every year and 20% of flights are delayed in Heathrow.\u00a0 A few years ago, Heathrow lost my luggage and it took almost a month for airline to locate it.\u00a0 I am taking BA for my honey moon to Rome, so I have to take a transfer at London.\u00a0 I thought the new T-5 terminal would have some improvement to the airport, it turns out to be worse.<\/p>\n<p>On my way there, I have the most horrable airport experience.\u00a0 The plumbing system of T-5 is broken, there is no flushing tiolet.\u00a0 The airport is really stinky and janitors has to carry bucket of water to flush the toilet after each use.\u00a0 It is even worse than Indian&#8217;s airport, at least airport in India has running water.\u00a0 (no tiolet paper though).\u00a0 On my way back, the tiolet is working, but I was stucked in the plane for two hours waiting to take off.\u00a0 The pilot claim because of bad weather, 85 flights is queueing up for the runway.\u00a0 Luckily my luggage is not lost this time.<\/p>\n<p>Even if the broken toilets and flight delays are just accidents, there are fundamental problems with Heathrow&#8217;s operation and design.\u00a0 Passangers have to walk a long way and queue up for the custom just merely staying in the airport for the transfer.\u00a0 One thing I don&#8217;t quite understand is the gate number assignment in Heathrow.\u00a0 Airport around the world assign gate number for each flight far ahead of time.\u00a0 Usually when you print your boarding pass, you already know which gate to board.\u00a0 In Heathrow, they keep the gate secret until the very minute.\u00a0 The moment you see the gate number show up in the display, you should get moving to the gate so that you won&#8217;t miss the flight.\u00a0 Everyone ends up waiting in the common area and create a huge crowd.\u00a0 One thing that is even more stupid is the new T-5 has 3 buildings connected by an underground light rail.\u00a0 Going from A gates to B gates is a one way street.\u00a0 Once you arrive in the B gates building, there is no way for you to go back to the A gates building.\u00a0 Passenagers can only go to the B gates once their gate number shows up in the display, which is almost time to board.\u00a0 As a result, passenagers won&#8217;t able to spent anything in the B gates shops.\u00a0 Then why the airport have shops and even a resturant in the B gates building.\u00a0 I feel sorry for those who open a shop in the B gates building, I don&#8217;t see a single customer in those shops, everyone is lining up to board.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>London Heathrow Airport is probably the worst airport in the world.\u00a0 I read from the news that on average 6% of luggage is lost every year and 20% of flights are delayed in Heathrow.\u00a0 A few years ago, Heathrow lost my luggage and it took almost a month for airline to locate it.\u00a0 I am &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horace.org\/blog\/2008\/09\/02\/heathrow\/\" class=\"more-link\">Continue reading <span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Heathrow<\/span> <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"lc_iscn_info":[],"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":false,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","default_image_id":0,"font":"","enabled":false},"version":2}},"categories":[1],"tags":[46,195,196],"class_list":["post-1980","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-_scribble","tag-honey-moon","tag-airport","tag-london"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
