  2. Here are my comments on your “Book of all Books”:

    1. During the Cultural Revolution, almost one-fourth of the world population was reading “Quotations from Chairman Mao 毛主席語錄”, the Little Red Book that shaped the political scenes in both China and other parts of the globe for almost two decades. I would think it should be included.

    2. The fact that thermo nuclear bombs kill doesn’t imply that Einstein and his discovery of E=mc2 are both “bad”. Similarly, it is not Darwin’s fault that his science book was used by Hitler to justify the latter’s atrocity.

    3. There is a line in the Dream of the Red Chamber Bad books could contaminate minds and change behaviours.』 My question is: How does one define “bad books 雜書”? While I respect your opinion on your definition of “Bibles of the Evil Sects 邪教的經書”, and you have listed a few, I would submit that others might not share your view.

    4. I do not pretend I have an answer to what should or should not be sanctioned / censored at the institutional or state levels. I guess it all depends on the value system of a society. Here in Canada, there are legal lines drawn with respect to hate-crimes, violence, kiddy-porns, and other materials deemed inappropriate or harmful to the society.

Again, I find your article most interesting and appreciate having the opportunity to make comments.

    1. I have the little red book at home, but the content is quite disappointing, just some brainless slogans. People during Cultural Revolution are crazy for Mao’s charisma, not really his stupid ideas. His idea is quite laughable in today’s standard.

Technically, E=mc2 is a scientific paper, not a book. Einstein’s discover change the world, but it doesn’t change how people think. Unlike Darwin, it does not shape people’s mind. Nuclear bomb is just a very very powerful bomb and relativity is too abstract for ordinary people.

If those religion cults are not evil, then they must be plain stupid. I have read most of those stupid books, or at least flip through the pages. Maybe I will write something to criticize those evil religions some other time. If other do not agree with me, they are welcome come forth for an argument. I am happy to enlighten them why they are wrong.

I am a believer of John Stuart Mills. I don’t like censoring in general. We should defeat those inappropriate books through intellectual power, not take the easy way out to ban them.
