My random thoughts of the day.

Pen spinning

Almost all HK students know how to spinning pens.? The basic is very simple, you spin a pen among your fingers.? Most often it is a subconcious action that your finger simply start spinning the pen when you are not writing. I know only two styles of pen spinning.? I learnt the horizontal spin in my English OAC summer class.? It was my lab-partner-to-be, Leon, who taught me how to spin forward and backward.? He can even spin pens with both hands simultanously.? Later on I pick ed up veritical spin from Mingwai, but I forgot under what circumstance.? The veritical spin is easier to do, and the pen falls off to the table less often.? When I was young, my parents told me spinning pen is bad habit.? I still don’t quite understand what is so bad among it.? Ok, if you spin badly and keep making noise, it is quite annoying to others.? I remember one of my teacher back in Lasalle always spin her pen.? It just looks cool.? Today I came across a pen spinning website, in which there are instructions to different styles and demostration videos.? There are some really cool pen spinning stunts I don’t even know about.? I only know the two most basic sytles.? If I am much younger, say still in highschool, probably I will follow the instruction of the website and practice pen spinning for my own amusement.? I am just too old to learn this kind of useless things.? You can check out the pen spinning stunts following this link

New mouse

My old Microsoft optical mouse is officially retired.? I bought a new Microsoft laser mouse 6000, top of the line model.? I have been a loyal Microsoft hardware user.? I am so accustomed to my natural keyboard and mouse.? I don’t even consider getting another brand.? Actually there are not many options out there for quality input devices, either Microsoft or Logitech.? The new mouse has better precision than the one mouse, the feel of button click and the scroll wheel is more solid.? It has exactly the same feature as my old mouse.? It is very hard for me to find top of the line mouse being a left hand mouse user.? I am not a left hander, but mainly due to historical reason.? I only had space on the left hand side of my very first computer for the mouse.? One advantage of using mouse by left hand is that I can write and operate the computer at the same time.? I have another advantage playing first person shooting games, since it is more natural to use the keypad than the alphabet keys.? Although I have to customize the key setting.? Since I am a right hander, I don’t have any trouble using mouse with my right hand if I have to.? Somehow mouse manufacturors always neglect the left hander market.? Almost all ergonomic mouses are taylored for right hand, so I can only use symmeteric mouse.? The best mouse in the market is Logitech MX Revolution.? If Logitech make a left hand version of it, I will ditch Microsoft without second thought.? One thing really puzzles me, how come most of my left hander friends using mouse by their right hand?? I should start promoting using mouse by left hand.? If we can get enought momentum, maybe the manufacturor will serve this niche market.

Boyfriend Criteria

Tonight I had dinner with Pat’s best friend’s dad and brother who are visiting Vancouver.? Since they have to exchange birthday present, it is the trouble of sending in mail.? It is interesting that they have the same birthday.? In the dinner, the dad had drank too much wine and start complaining her daughter cannot find any boy friends.? As fas as I know her, she is always single.? One of her problem is her standard is too hard.? She want guys who is smart, rich, handsome and most important he has to be better than her, .? These kind of good guys are limited in supply, as herself is quite capable.? She is had an undergrad degree and now studying law.? Her dad joke that the tuition of law school would really worth the money if she can fish a lawyer-to-be husband.? I have always wanted to introduce my two single friends at work to her.? My friends are quite decent, no bad hobbies, good income, just maybe a bit geeky.? Pat has striked down the idea saying her friend won’t like them.? I think her friend is just too picky.? It is a common delimma for capable single girls.? Regardless of their own appearance, it seems all of them want to find good quality guys.? It seems good quality guys usually avoid those girls since they are just too demanding.? The desire of the good quality guys doesn’t match the desire of single capble girls.? Why can’t single girls simply accept the reality and lower their standard of boyfriend criteria?

Bitchar-G 57MHz

I have been looking for a Bitchar-G remote control car running at 57MHz for quite sometime.? To be exact, I am loooking for a discount deal.? I saw places I could get it for marked up price, but already own 3 Bitchar-G, I don’t have the incentive to get the last one.? Especially I got two of them in a really good deal.? Then I found out a colleague has a 57MHz Bitchar-G for a couple of years.? That is the only Bitchar he has, so he rarely play it because no one race him.? He heard about my racing trace in the cubicle next to my, so he come over and ask for a race.? We had some good time and two more colleagues join the race.? I never expect all four different frequence Bitchar G can race together.? His car only has the stock 10k rpm motor, can’t compete with upgraded cars with 16k rpm motors.? When I ordered my 1.6 motors, I ordered four of them, expecting I will get a cheap 57MHz eventually.? I am happy to sell the extra motor to him since I am no longer looking to get the 57MHz car.? It is nice to cash out the spare part, althought I am actually take a small lose to get rid of it.? I havn’t played the race track for a while already.? We all know the company sucks, but at least we can make the office more fun.

Farewell to Fr. Guy

Fr. Guy, pronounce as gey, of St. Mary is going to preach in Taiwan for good.? Tonight the church organized a farewell party for him.? I usually sleep through his Homily, so I can’t really remember any of his sermon.? Howevere, Fr. Guy always very supportive to the Chinese community.? I met him outside of St. Mary a few times in different fund raising event of other Chinese churches.? It is his dream to go to spread the gospel in China.? The farewell party is full of blessing.? We had potluck dinner in the church basement and then followed by a small but touching show put together by the parishers in the church.? The church office gave Fr. Guy three farewell gifts to bring to China following the 3 things Jesus tell his disciples to bring when he sent them away.? It is a staff, a pair of sandles and two T-shirts.? Especially, the staff is very meaning and makes Fr. Guy cry in front of the crowd.? The staff can be disassemble into three sections.? The wood of section is collect from an important place related to Fr. Guy, his family farm, courtyard of St. Mary and New Westminster Abbey.? Each section symbolize a blessing from people in each stage of his life.? I think this is the art of gift giving.? You have to give meaning to the gift and make the reciever not just remember the fact who give him the gift, but also the message embedded in the gift.? When giving a gift to someone, you are not only giving him a tangible thing that he could use, it is also a way of non-verbal communication.? You want a message attach to the gift so that the reciever will remember your words everything he sees the gift.
