I should have write a real article on this topic, but really don’t have time these days. So I can only scribble my thoughs on my blog. My memory about the 64 event is quite blurred, except the news clips keep replaying every year. I was in F.1 that time, I can recall my teacher cried in class the next day trying to tell us a lesson we were too young to understand. Maybe next year, I will have time to give it more thinking and write a longer article about 64. I don’t want to merely repeat the two sides of arguments I have been hearing over the past 17 years. For now, I only have the common standard shared memory of all HKer had exprienced 64 in 1989. One good thing about history is that it always there, you can take as much time you need to think it over. The question is, will the Great Firewall put Youtube on the censored list?

TVB News Special on June 4 1989

Today I met a Catholic friend coming from Beijing and learnt a few things about the Catholic Church in China. Recently, the ordination of chinese bishops light up the conflict between Vatican and the Communist Party. The cause is the fight for the control of the China Catholic Church. The power struggle doesn’t really affect normal layman catholics in the church. There are indeed underground church in china, even in Beijing. My friend said the priests enter China as tourists and offer masses outside the control China Catholic Church, which is just a dog of the Communist Party. He had attended mass inside the Canadian Embrassy, but the mass no open to local chinese without a foriegn password. Technically speaking, it’s not an underground church, since the Canadian Embrassy is on Canadian soil. He had invited us to have short term missionary in Beijing. This is a good chance to really understand the life of people in China. Plus, visiting the underground church should be quite exciting. I just have to remember enter China using the Canadian passport, so I will have embrassy protection if anything goes wrong. I have just added an item to my life goal to-do list.

When the bill comes after having a nice dinner, many people, including myself, just glaze at the total amount without looking at each items closely. As long as the total amount seems about right, we are happily putting down our credit card. This is very wrong. We should never trust the resturant and double check every bills we come across. Tonight I went to a nice seafood resturant with my parents, the waiter mistakely charged two more dessert and two coffee to my bill. The extra amount is less than $20, which is less than 10% of the total bill. I didn’t notice it at first, luckily my mom has a good habbit going through all items on the bill and spot the error. Bills written by hand can have addition error as well. which is even harder to spot. Sometimes, I wonder does the resturant randomly add different kinds of error into the bill to make some extra profit.

In the age of internet, everyone can get 15 minutes of fame. If you dare to post your video to youtube. I was talking to Verona today, came up with this wonderful idea to get her famous, instantly. Our plan is to make a MTV, featuring her as the singer. The song in our mind is Denis Ho’s “Mimi and me”, which describe girls who drive mimi. We can use Lesile, Ivy and Verona’s mimi to make the music video. We can mimic some sence in Italian Jobs and we can use P0 parkade for most of the filming. I will be the director and I have came up with some ideas how to shot the video, like driving on the highway with the top open, wearing a big hat, big sunglass and scarf flying in the wind just like old French movies. Lesile will be our special effect expert since he is good at video software. Jackson will provide the filming equitment as well as make the mimis all shinny before shotting. I am sure the video will be more popular than the “bus uncle” clip in youtube. After Verona became famous, maybe some HK record company will sign her up as a singer just like kellyjacky.

I read in the news about the lawsuit of Creative suiting Apple over some user interface pattern related to iPod. In the article, it is interesting to learn back in 2001, before Apple release its first iPod, it wanted to license the hardware from Creative. Back then Apple was the new comer to the infant mp3 player market, while Creative was in fact the market leader. At the end Creative cannot reach an agree with Apple and Apple decided to design its own hardware. The rest is history. I am sure the executives at Creative must be really regret about his decision to blow the deal or executive s slipped this golden oppertunity already let go. Sometimes looking back into history, you would make a different decision if you know what will turn out is different. The problem is, how can you know what’s lying ahead of you?
